Job DescriptionThe Inpatient Diabetes Program will target inpatients with acute or chronic diabetes management issues or concerns, including newly diagnosed diabetes. The Inpatient Diabetes Program Nurse Practitioner will work with Endocrinologists and Dietitians in the development of screening and treatment protocols and treatment pathways for all diabetic patients, and provide education to all inpatient nursing units regarding the use of these tools. The NP will round on select patients as part of an interdisciplinary team, and provide individual and coordinated consults with Endocrinologists on select patients. Sparrow is the largest private employer in the vibrant Greater Lansing area, the Capital of Michigan and home to Michigan State University. Sparrow is a teaching hospital, in partnership with MSU's Colleges of Human and Osteopathis Medicine. In addition, Sparrow partners in several professional training programs. The Sparrow Regional Diabetes Center is the only full-service, multi-disciplinary diabetes program serving mid-Michigan. We provide evaluation, management, dietary counseling, education and support groups for adults and children. Established in 1999, our education program is certified by the Michigan Department of Community Health and recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Requirements: MSN, Nurse practitioner with at least 2 years experience, preferably in diabetes and or diabetes management. Strong consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience with Inpatient program development and start-up including initial protocols, pathways. Excellent interpersonal, time management, physical assessment/history taking and problem solving skills. Preferred CDE or BC-ADM credential. Preferred experience in diabetes, diabetes equipment, and insulin pump skills.
